Seaboard System Railroad was created in 1982 when CSX Corporation merged its subsidiaries Seaboard Coast Line and Louisville & Nashville.

In 1985, Seaboard System in Georgia consisted of the former lines of Seaboard Coast Line, L&N, Georgia Railroad, Atlanta & West Point Railroad, and Gainesville Midland Railroad.
