Western & Atlantic Railroad
|
|
The Western & Atlantic Railroad was Atlanta's link across northwestern Georgia to the Tennessee River at Chattanooga. Its Atlanta facilities, shown in this George Barnard photo, were destroyed after Union troops captured the city in 1864. The view is to the northwest. The W&A's impressive roundhouse can be seen in the background. Today the site is under the elevated parking deck that stands between Philips Arena and Spring Street.
