Cataula's depot stands alongside the recently abandoned former Central of Georgia Railway line that ran from Columbus north to Hamilton, Chipley (Pine Mountain), Greenville, Allie, and Raymond (4 miles east of Newnan). The line began as the North & South Railroad of Georgia, an attempt to build a rail connection between Columbus and Rome. In its last decades the line was a part of Georgia Southwestern Railroad.
The north end of the line from Raymond to Allie (5 miles north of Greenville) was abandoned in 1981. The remainder of the line was abandoned in 2008.
