Tallapoosa's rail stations, now gone, served the Southern Railway, which was constructed in the 1880s as the Georgia Pacific Railway.
In the early 1890s the town featured a huge resort hotel and had plans for a streetcar system.
Tallapoosa is a town of 3,118 in Haralson County, about 70 miles west of Atlanta.
